 We were founded in 1980 by Mr. Frank Kiczkowski as the Austin Kendo Dojo. Originally consisting of a mixture of University of Texas students and Austin resident, the organization was split into the University of Texas Kendo Association (UTKA) and the Austin Kendo Doshikai (AKD) in 1986.

Sensei Tetsuo Komizu joined us as our instructor in 1986. He has been practicing Kendo for over 30 years and teaching for over 15 of those years.

"Doshikai" means "people of a like mind". Our purpose is to discipline and cultivate the human character through the application of the principles of the katana.
